![]() ![]() If you know you're taking Wizard levels anyways, you could save a feat or even open yourself to taking Ritual Caster: Cleric and go wild on rituals. That being said, you can pull the same trick with the Ritual Caster feat, which also gets you higher level rituals faster. Since you would do this with rituals, they don't fall prey to the same decreasing marginal utility problem as other spells because they don't use the same resource. (Your DM may also rule that you can just write them into your book if you know them.) The first level Wizard rituals are pretty great, so this has value. You can actually cheat the spells known system by laundering your AT spells through spell scrolls into your Wizard spellbook before switching them at the next level. ![]() You mentioned rituals and that could be a valid reason to dip earlier, even after Rogue 3. Arcane Trickster gives you surprisingly little on top of a spellcasting dip until Rogue 9. Obviously Rogue still gives Cunning Action, expertises, etc., but those are all features of the main class. If you're really set on having Wizard features earlier, another Rogue Subclass will give you more that complements Wizard levels rather than being a downgraded redundancy of them. I think AT/Wizard can be great at high levels, but you want to go straight to Rogue 9 before multiclassing. By the time AT adds something really substantial to your spellcasting at Rogue 6 when it upgrades your spell slots, you will actually regret those three Wizard levels for delaying Magical Ambush. On top of your 8 prepared spells, two rituals, and three cantrips from your Wizard dip, Arcane Trickster 5 adds your 11th-14th favorite spells and your 4th-6th cantrips when you compare it with any other Rogue subclass dipping into Wizard. So why not take a different subclass like Thief or Soulknife or Phantom that add a different kind of utility? Well it depends on what spells you want and if Wizard isn't enough for them. If so, what would you think is the best school of magic?ĮDIT: There is 3 members in my group, me, a rune kight fighter and a aberrant mind sorcerer who is focusing on damage, so we don't have much utility.ĪT's main contribution to your character is that you get spells. The thing is, both rogue and wizard lose a lot when you dip into another class, a single lvl into wizard seems pretty solid to me, but it is worth it to get 2 ou even 3 lvls. Although i started to think about getting one more lvl to get a wizard school, maybe war magic, maybe bladesinger, or maybe even 3 lvls into wizard to get lvl 2 spells. My idea is to get a single wizard lvl to get access to more spells, ritual casting and increasing my caster lvl since wizard is a full caster. Also the DM is going to give a free feat at lvl 5 to the players. To get some context i’m playing a light foot halfling at lvl 4 and this are my stats: str 7 dex 20 con 14 int 18 wis 13 cha 12. Hi, i’m playing a arcane trickster and i’m considering a multiclass into wizard, in general i would like to know what do you think, how many levels should i get and suggestions in general.
